Process Characteristics Of Metal Manufacturing

(1) Strong adaptability to the shape and size of the casting. It can produce blanks of various shapes and sizes, especially suitable for the manufacture of parts with complex internal cavities.
(2) Strong adaptability to materials. It can adapt to the forming of most metal materials, and casting has unique advantages for materials that are not suitable for forging and welding.
(3) Low casting cost. This is due to the rich source of casting raw materials, the shape of the casting is close to the part, which can reduce the amount of cutting, thereby reducing the casting cost.
Therefore, casting is one of the most important methods of blank production, such as by weight, 60% to 80% of the machine tool, 50% to 60% of the automobile casting. However, due to the many casting process links, it is easy to produce a variety of casting defects, and the general casting grain is coarse, and the mechanical properties are not as good as forgings. Therefore, castings are generally not suitable for making important parts with complex forces and large forces, and are mainly used for parts with small forces or simple static loads (especially suitable for compression stresses), such as boxes, beds, supports, frames, etc.
